Frequently asked Questions

  1. QUESTION: What is the major cause of cystic acne in adults and how can it be curtailed?

    • ANSWER: i think stress and anger cause it

  2. QUESTION: What might be the cause of my cystic acne at age 19?I think I started having my first breakouts at the age of 12 and have had it up until this day though it is not as severe it is still quite moderate. I’ve seen a dermatologist and been treated with antibiotitics such as Tetracycline. the dose was rather high; 4 tablets a day divided into two doses in the morning and at night. It helped a bit but not much. I stopped by choice because I had to eat restrictively for the treatment to really work. I was on the treatment for about 5 to 7 months and I saw no big improvement whatsoever so I thought it just wasn’t worth it. Accutane was an option until in March this year I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis, a chronic liver inflammation caused by my immunesystem to try and reject my liver. So I was put on high doses of cortisone at first which has been reduced to just one tablet 5 mg a day now. My doctor did tell me that the cortisone could cause more acne. I have used Proactiv, oral prescription-free treatments, prescriptions, Neutrogena, cheap as well as expensive designer brands, home remedies, etc and none has worked. I eat completely healthy, no junk or sweets at all! the only sugar I consume is natural sugars such as fruit sugar and honey in my tea. My acne has indeed gotten better since I was diagnosed with this health condition and my liver has improved due to the treatment. could my acne be associated with my liver inflammation or is it just hormonal? Neither of my parents have had this big of issues with acne in their mid and late teens/young adult years. I hate my skin so much somedays I can’t even bear to look myself in the mirror. And I can’t take birth control for my acne due to my health condition.I don’t have Lupus. I’ve done a liver biopsy and everything in between and my diagnosis is Autoimmune Hepatitis. Both are autoimmune diseases though I was diagnosed with an inflammation in my liver. My mother has SLE (Systemic lupus erythematosus) which is how I got my disease but lupus itself does not cause acne.

    • ANSWER: I am not exactly sure. I have the exact same problem now pretty much and I’m 20. I do know there’s this thing called vitex you can take to help balance out your hormones though and improve your acne. but that’s only if your lacking in progesterone…if your hormone imbalance is the other way around it won’t work. Other than that I’ve heard drinking a lot of green tea help and so does getting plenty of sleep and exercise. in the mean time there is this really good foundation it’s called double wear camouflage by estee lauder. It’s but it works extremely well to cover acne.

  3. QUESTION: what causes cystic pimples?the kind that arent poppable just like little balls on your face.

i have no history of acne in my family, and im an adult. so why am i getting cystic pimples all of a sudden? and how do i fix it?

    • ANSWER: you don’t pop cystic pimples. If you try, you will get scars. (Prob knew that). Acne and cystic pimples can form at any time in a person’s life. to fix it, use strong acne medication and an oil free face wash.

  4. QUESTION: question about adult acne/treatment etc?about 8 months ago, we had a death in the family…very stressful and I had a horrible breakout…pimples everywhere on my face, and I’m talking everywhere. I attributed it to stress and eventually they went down but “evolved” into this very strange patch of what I can only assume is cystic acne…sort of like a rash which will not respond to any sort of topical treatment I have tried. I have another patch forming, and also some on my neck along with random “normal” pimples elsewhere. When I wake up in the morning, the patches are noticeable in the morning, but they are “flat” and don’t really hurt. by mid day, they hurt when touched and are more inflamed and bumpy. I can’t get into the dermatologist for another 2 months…any ideas on what could have caused this? I’m pushing 30 and have no history of acne problems ever. is this hormonal or triggered by an unknown allergy to something….and what will likely be the first treatment for it? I’m not a vain person but I’m pained to admit I am becoming very self conscious about it. So far it hasn’t developed into open sores/pustules etc…

  5. QUESTION: Do you think this was a cruel and crazy thing for my mom to say?for the past 7 months I’ve had really terrible, very painful cystic acne on my face. Not just like a little zit, but huge cystic and nodular acne that is impossible to treat on its own. It’s deep under the skin, and each one can last for months. My dad told my mom to take me to the dermatologist months ago, and she won’t because she volunteers at our church and won’t take the time off. It’s also because we live in Australia now (we are Americans) and she’s still scared to drive her and is scared of City Rail too. the doctor’s office said I had to bring a parent. My dad is traveling all the time and not here to take me so thats got to be my mom. He had bad acne as a teen and his sister and niece had it bad too all the way from their teens up to till their 30s. Three times my teachers have told me they were worried about my acne because one on my chin looks infected and one of the teachers even called my mom and she still won’t do anything about it.

I keep begging my mom to take me and she keeps saying no. I told her about how terrible it made me feel about myself and how I get bullied for it, and she said that it was just God humbling me. When we lived in Chicago I was a cheerleader and 8th grade homecoming queen and popular. now I am very lonely, am treated like a leper and I look and feel awful. She said I’d been too vain when I was younger, and this would teach me to not be that way anymore and make me be a better adult and Catholic. She said she used to depend on her beauty too but in Proverbs it says its fleeting and I just got mine taken away earlier. I think that’s insane. I don’t think God would want us to be miserable when there’s plenty of treatment available!!!! I already talked to the dermatologist. They said they could give me medicine and make it better. this would be paid for by my dad’s insurance so the only reason I haven’t gotten help is cause of my mom.R, I think God does exist. I just don’t think the rest of what she said is true about him. but he does exist. I love God. It’s not his fault she’s saying this crap about him.Isis Grace, my dad already asked them if he could send written permission to treat me but they said a parent had to come w me in person for the first visit.

    • ANSWER: Your Mother should be reminded that verse in Proverbs is meant for women who are very vain and take beauty too seriously. Proverbs 31 reminds women to be good, virtuous wives and Mothers and not be selfish or vain. Nowhere did it say “You can’t be beautiful”. on the contrary, God made us to enjoy the beauty He gave us as women. He also gave us the amazing minds for medicine and advanced technology that can take care of things like acne.

I think your Mother is a little off here and she really should take you to the Doctor. Not for your vanity but for your health. Acne of this magnitude could be because of a number of underlying issues. It’s important to see a Doctor about this and rule everything out. Then you can get treatment for it.

You may want to calmly talk to your Mother about this. If that doesn’t work, speak to your Dad and make sure your Mom is there too.
