Severe Acne

Acne is common but there are people who suffer more than the majority. their acne is more spread and the inflammation is also more. They suffer from severe acne. for these people, treating the acne are more difficult and most of the time the acne are very persistent. this causes a lot of tension in them and they lose their self- esteem. They consider themselves as different from the rest and start to judge themselves by looking at their reflections in the mirror. Severe acne are most of the times caused by the same factors that causes the ordinary acne like hormones, genetics, increased oil glands, etc. but in the case of severe acne the infection is much more and therefore the acne are also spread and deep. In short, they are chronic acne.

There are four types of severe acne:
1)Acne conglobata: this type of acne severity is characterized by deep abscesses, inflammation, severe damage to the skin, scarring and there are lot of blackheads. Isotretinoin is usually used to treat this type of severe acne. the patient will also have to take antibiotics and several courses of treatment are usually required. it is important for these people to keep in touch with the dermatologists even after the acnes are healed.
2)Acne fulminans: it is a sudden onset of highly destructive inflammation and is characterized by symptoms of severe and often ulcerating acne, fever and inflammation and aching of joints. to treat those with this type of acne corticosteroids or non-steroidal inflammatory medications are recommended ad sometimes isotretinoin is used for long term treatment.
3)Gram-negative folliculities: the uses of antibiotics have severe side effects and this type of acne is one such side effect. Those who had been using antibiotics may get this more serious and severe acne. the treatment is difficult because the bacteria are resistant to many antibiotics. Isotretinoin may be effective in the treatment.
4)Nodulocystic acne: this ace is characterized by cysts which may be widespread. They are very painful and may appear in the face, neck, shoulders, scalp, back and chest. Isotretinoin or antibiotics may again be used for treatment. some cysts do not respond to the antibiotics and require surgical excision.

Those who suffer from severe acne need lots of support because it may take a long time to treat the acne and sometimes treatments fail one after another. No treatment should be done without the dermatologist because it is a serious problem and the treatments involve the use or very strong medication. the side effects of the medicines used for treating these acne can also be brutal. In such a case there is nobody who can help better than the dermatologist.
