Treatment for Female Adult Acne
There are generally four types of physical acne treatments currently available for female adult acne. They are chemical peels, comedo extraction, drainage and surgical extraction, and light or laser therapy treatment. Although they can be used for all cases of female adult acne, they are normally used for moderate to severe cases. It should be noted that all physical treatments are to be performed by a dermatologist.
The aim of chemical peels is to loosen blackheads and minimize the acne papules (firm, pink and inflamed comedones that are tender to the touch). Dermatologist often use the mixture of glycolic acid and some other chemical agents to do this chemical peels.
Comedo extraction (the removal of whiteheads and blackheads).
In certain cases, this type of treatment female adult acne can be very beneficial. A dermatologist will use a sterile instrument to extract the comedones. Warning: you should not attempt tot do this treatment by yourself at home or you will be at risk of bacterial infections such as staphylococci and streptococci, and run the risk of causing permanent scarring.
Drainage and surgical extraction.
Sometimes cysts do not respond to medication. It is then best to drain and extract them surgically. this option can reduce the pain generated by the cysts and also lower the scarring chances. Note: this treatment should always be done under sterile conditions and only by a licensed dermatologist.
Light and laser therapy treatment.
Dermatologists may opt for this type of treatment in some cases, especially in treating hard-to-reach areas such as the back. however, there are several downsides of this option. It is very expensive and may only be used for acne that is caused by P.acnes bacteria. It is not suitable to be used for other causes such as excessive sebum production and skin cell shedding. Plus the effectiveness of this treatment on a long term basis has not been proven. however, despite this, laser therapy is useful to treat existing scars. an irregular surface scarring can be treated by using a superficial application of laser energy. Depressed scar can also be plumped out by using another form of laser which penetrates deep into the skin and tighten its underlying tissue.
In all cases, you are advised to consult your dermatologist for the treatment adult female acne options.
